Discover Chiavari
Chiavari, the city of porticoes, is famous for its Art Nouveau architecture, beaches and excellent food. It is a town worth discovering, especially its magnificent historic centre characterised by picturesque narrow streets and colourful buildings. You can admire some Art Nouveau architecture such as the Palazzo Rocca, the Palazzo Torriglia, the Villa Rocca and the Church of San Giovanni Battista. A typical tradition of the people of Chiavari is to go to the market open from Monday to Saturday in Piazza Mazzini, the main square in the centre of the so-called ʺCarruggio Drittoʺ literally a stone's throw from Hotel Monte Rosa. Chiavari's market is one of the largest in Liguria, where you can find fresh fruit and vegetables, fish, meat, cheese, and other typical Ligurian products. Not to be missed is the splendid promenade that stretches for about 3 km along the coast and is the ideal area for an evening stroll, perhaps at sunset, with a view of the Gulf and the surrounding hills. Among the most popular activities, the boat trip is certainly the most characteristic and evocative one to undertake in this wonderful town. Chiavari, in fact, offers many possibilities for long boat trips along the coast to admire the panorama from the sea perspective. It is possible to rent boats with or without a skipper, or take part in one of the many organized excursions. For art lovers, however, a visit to the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Vegetable Garden, a Marian shrine and bishop's seat of the Chiavari diocese; a 17th-century church located just outside the historic center of Chiavari, is not to be missed. Beautiful works of art can be admired here, including an altarpiece by Anton Maria Maragliano. For nature and botany enthusiasts, Villa Rocca Park offers a large collection of plants and trees, as well as a splendid view of Chiavari. Developing vertically on different heights, it offers different views of the city and the sea; it is an ideal garden that expresses the meeting of Italian style and exoticism.
