Discover the Cinque Terre

Cinque Terre

A land where the mountains and the sea meet, where the waves crash against the steep rocky cliffs: these are the Cinque Terre, five ancient villages perched on narrow cliffs overlooking the sea in the stretch of eastern Ligurian coastline from Punta Mesco to Punta di Montenero.
From west to east they are: Monterosso, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola and Riomaggiore.
The Cinque Terre are part of the Protected Marine Area and National Park that protect their absolute uniqueness and have been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1997.
The Cinque Terre have an ancient culinary and gastronomic tradition thanks to the presence of the characteristic terraces cultivated with vines. The best known wines are the white 5 Terre, a DOC product, but above all the Sciacchetrà, a passito wine obtained from the fermentation of grapes left to dry on trellises, a true pearl of the Cinque Terre.
Sportsmen will perhaps be more interested in the renowned hiking trails of the Cinque Terre; for centuries, they have been the only link between one village and another and, stretching over more than 120 kilometres, they make it possible to visit the entire territory.
The best means of transport to reach the Cinque Terre is certainly by train with the “5 Terre Express”, Trenitalia’s regional and fast regional train that crosses the entire Cinque Terre Park, from Levanto to La Speziaoffering up to 99 trains a day, 7 days a week, every 15 minutes operating from 18 March until 5 November 2023.
It is possible to reach the Cinque Terre by train from Chiavari, a little over an hour’s journey. In the summertime it is also possible to reach the villages by boat and ferry. The Hotel Monte Rosa staff will be able to provide you with all the up-to-date information you need to arrive in the most convenient and scenic way in the Cinque Terre paradise.
